ONE-4Reef Guide
ONE-4Reef is a super-concentrated, pure organic form of the Modern Reef proportional consumption reef-keeping system in one canister. It contains the necessary trace elements found in natural seawater, organic micro-nutrients, amino acids, and now includes the
Reef Engine Evolved Formula.
ONE-4Reef is ready to use and designed to help maintain a healthy, colorful reef aquarium. It is highly concentrated:
1L contains 50,160 mg/L calcium and 7,000 °dKH/L.
ONE-4Reef can be used alone in suitable reef aquariums where a simple one-canister dosing method is preferred.
Important
ONE-4Reef should be considered a form of
organic carbon dosing. Because of the bacterial activity produced by organic dosing, it may significantly reduce nutrients such as
NO3 and PO4.
In low-nutrient aquariums, this can lead to pale coral coloration or reduced growth if nutrients are not monitored and corrected. For this reason, we recommend regularly testing
NO3 and PO4 and dosing
Modern Reef N+ and P+ when needed.
If you are already using another carbon source, such as
Modern Reef C+, reduce or stop that dosing when using ONE-4Reef.
KH Testing Note
ONE-4Reef is an organic supplementation system. Because of this, the alkalinity contribution may not appear immediately in KH test results.
In some aquariums, it can take up to
48 hours for the KH provided by ONE-4Reef to become visible in standard KH test kits.
For this reason, when adjusting the dosage, test both
calcium and KH regularly, but use
calcium as the main dosage regulator during the adjustment period. Avoid making fast or aggressive dosage changes based only on a single KH reading.
Recommended Use
ONE-4Reef is best suited for
low to moderate consumption reef aquariums, such as:
- LPS-dominant aquariums
- Soft coral aquariums
- Mixed reef aquariums with mainly LPS and soft corals
- Low-demand reef systems
- Reef aquariums where a simple one-canister solution is preferred
ONE-4Reef
can also be used in SPS aquariums with caution, especially when consumption is not very high and nutrient levels are carefully monitored.
For
SPS-dominant aquariums, mixed reefs with many Acropora, or high-consumption reef systems, we recommend using the
Modern Reef Proportional Consumption RKS — 4-canister system instead of relying only on ONE-4Reef.
Some Acropora and sensitive SPS corals may not respond optimally to a purely organic supplementation method. In these systems, the hybrid
organic/inorganic RKS method generally provides better stability, color, growth, and long-term results.
Benefits
- One-canister solution to supply the main reef aquarium needs
- Now includes Reef Engine Evolved Formula
- Supports color, growth, and coral vitality
- Contains trace elements, organic micro-nutrients, and amino acids
- No accumulation of by-products such as sodium or chloride
- Suitable for LPS-dominant, soft coral, and low-demand mixed reef aquariums
- Can be used in low-demand SPS systems with careful monitoring
- Helps improve polyp extension
- Helps maintain cleaner rocks and sand
- Assists in maintaining clear water
- Can help reduce excess nutrients such as NO3 and PO4
- Suitable for manual or automatic dosing
- Space-saving: one canister and one dosing pump when used alone
Note: Complete Reef Fuel — the new name of
Complete Reef Food — and
Polypop complement the ONE-4Reef system and should be used as part of the Modern Reef proportional consumption method.
ONE-4Reef Alone as a Reef-Keeping Method
ONE-4Reef can be used alone if you prefer a simple, organic, one-canister dosing method.
This method is most suitable for
low to moderate demand aquariums, such as LPS-dominant, soft coral, and mixed reef aquariums with moderate consumption.
Start by dosing:
4 ml of ONE-4Reef per 100 liters daily
Then increase by:
2 ml per 100 liters every 2–4 days
Continue adjusting until calcium and KH remain stable and you find your maintenance dosage.
Test
KH and calcium regularly. Use
calcium as the main dosage regulator, because the KH contribution from ONE-4Reef, like other organic Balling methods, may take up to
48 hours to become visible in a KH test kit.
Do not exceed:
20 ml per 100 liters per day
To complement the system, dose
Complete Reef Fuel — the new name of
Complete Reef Food — and
Polypop according to your total ONE-4Reef dosage.
Important Notes for SPS Systems
ONE-4Reef alone can be used in SPS systems with caution, but it is generally better suited for aquariums with lower consumption.
For SPS-dominant aquariums, Acropora-heavy systems, or high-demand mixed reefs, we recommend using the
Modern Reef RKS — 4-canister proportional consumption system.
The RKS system combines organic and inorganic supplementation, which is often better tolerated by sensitive Acropora and provides stronger stability in high-consumption aquariums.

Final Note
Complete Reef Fuel (the new name of
Complete Reef Food) and
Polypop complement the ONE-4Reef system as part of the Modern Reef proportional consumption method.
For low- to moderate-consumption aquariums, ONE-4Reef offers a simple and effective one-canister solution.
For SPS-dominant aquariums, high-consumption systems, and mixed reefs with Acropora, the
Modern Reef RKS 4-canister system remains the recommended primary method instead of using only ONE-4Reef.
